By India Today Web Desk: Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will need more time to completely recover from a stress fracture he suffered last year and the 26-year-old is in danger of missing out on a potential World Cup berth. Prasidh last played for India during their tour of Zimbabwe in August 2022 and he has been doing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Prasidh was certainly above Mohammed Siraj in the pecking order in the ODI team, having picked up 25 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 5.32 before he suffered the stress fracture. However, in his absence, Siraj has climbed up the ladder with impressive performances and has become the No. 1 fast bowler in ICC ODI rankings.
India have had multiple injury concerns in the recent past with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to injury concerns. Prasidh is unlikely to return to play the 3-match ODi series against Australia after the 4-Test series.
“Prasidh has a stress fracture and in case of this particular form of injury, you cannot put a date on a prospective comeback.”
“Every player has a different body type and recovery process and time would be different. It could be anything between six months to one year. In case of Prasidh, he is still not fit enough to return to play and it is unfortunate that he missed the entire domestic season,” news agency PTI quoted a BCCI official as saying.
Prasidh, as pointed out, has missed the entire domestic season for Karnataka and is likely to return to action in the Indian Premier League. The 26-year-old, who plays for Rajasthan Royals, would be hoping to get some miles in his leg by bowling consistently before the start of IPL but it remains to be seen how he can get competitive action.
Prasidh made his ODI debut in 2021 and impressed in white-ball cricket after having been talked up in the past by former selectors, including former chief selector, MSK Prasad.
