By India Today Web Desk: Legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praise on Cheteshwar Pujara, saying his contribution to the Indian team has been immense but his achievements aren’t recognized enough. Pujara is part of India’s team that is facing Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Nagpur.

Speaking to PTI, Tendulkar said Pujara’s achievements are not recognized enough. Pujara is playing his 99th Test match for India and has scored over 7,000 runs for India in that period.

“I feel Pujara’s achievements aren’t recognised enough and his importance in the team isn’t recognised enough, generally,” said Tendulkar.

The Master Blaster went on to say that Pujara has played magnificently for India and his contributions have been immense.

“He has played magnificently for the country and his contribution has been immense in whatever success Indian cricket team has had,” Tendulkar added.

At stumps on Day 1, India were 77 for 1, trailing Australia by 100 runs. Australia had something to cheer for in the penultimate over of the day’s play as debutant Todd Murphy sent back KL Rahul, who lacked fluency, with a simple return catch. Rahul took his time to get going but as he was settling into his innings, lack of concentration cost him his wicket for 20 runs off 71 balls.

Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 56 after getting to a free-flowing fifty and was joined by Ravichandran Ashwin, who was sent in as a night watchman after Rahul departed.

In the first innings, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj provided India with two quick breakthroughs, getting rid of Australia openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja. Then the spinners took over with Ravindra Jadeja picking up a five-wicket haul on his Test comeback. Meanwhile, Ashwin picked up three wickets as India bundled out Australia 177 after 63.5 overs.
