By India Today Web Desk: Fast bowler Renuka Singh said that she is looking forward to the challenge of bowling to Alyssa Healy in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
Healy has had her troubles while facing Renuka, who has dismissed the Australian top-order batter four out of nine times in T20Is. Renuka, who won the award for the ICC Women’s Emerging Player of the Year in 2022, said that she is looking forward to facing Australia in the mega event.
“I love playing against Australia and I enjoy bowling against them,” Renuka was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.
“I like bowling to Alyssa Healy. I have got her out quite a few times. I like the challenge of bowling to her and always try not to give her runs but get her out early,” she stated.
Healy is a veteran in the T20 format, having scored 2300 runs for Australia from 136 matches at an average of 23.46 and a strike-rate of 127.91 with one century and 12 half-centuries to show for her efforts.
India and Australia are in separate groups, but may face each other either in the semi-final or final of the tournament, which is scheduled to get underway on Friday, February 10.
Renuka also recalled the 2017 Women’s World Cup final which India lost to England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The speedster wants her team to turn things around in the upcoming World Cup.
“Our girls’ performance in the 2017 World Cup when we reached the final. I enjoyed watching that and was hoping India would win. We couldn’t, but this time, hopefully, we will,” Renuka added.
The 27-year-old Renuka also talked about working on her fitness and adding a few skills to her repertoire.
“I have worked a lot on my fitness and a bit on variations. On my last tour, I made some mistakes and wasn’t able to execute what I wanted. So I have worked a lot since then,” she said.
India’s opening match is against Pakistan on Monday, February 12 at the Newlands in Cape Town.
