Speaking about the selection call, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja explained that it either could have come down to a personal preference, or the Indian team management wanted the senior India players to get their due.
“It is a tough one. Suryakumar Yadav is more fun to watch. But from the point of view of Indian cricket, both of them were picked in the squad based on form. It is a very difficult call. But it seems like the Indian team has given the chance to players who have toiled a lot in domestic cricket, be it for KS Bharat or be it for Suryakumar Yadav. Indian team has given players their due,” Jadeja explained the selection call on Cricbuzz.
India had a sensational start to the Test match on Day 1 and removed the Australian openers inside the first 10 minutes of the Test match. Ravindra Jadeja then rattled the Australian middle order and picked three important wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw. The bowler found assistance from Ravi Ashwin later in the game, who scalped his 450th Test wicket after dismissing Alex Carey.
At the time of writing, Australia were struggling at 173/8 in the 59th over of the game.
The Nagpur pitch assisted the spinners for the better part of the day, but was rewarding to the fast bowlers as well with the new ball.
