By India Today Web Desk: India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that he is batting really well and getting into good positions. Ashwin scored 23 runs as a night watchman in India’s first innings at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

Speaking ahead of Day 3, Ashwin said he’s got the flow while batting, adding that he has been playing pretty well recently.

“I’ve sort of got the tick on the way I’m batting. Not just playing out spin, I’m playing pretty well, getting into good positions. Had a lull for about a year and a half, two years maybe, wasn’t getting into positions, was playing the ball a bit late, struggling for time,” said Ashwin.

The 36-year-old said he has been batting really well over the last couple of years, insisting that playing with Rajasthan helped him learn about his batting ability.

“Those things do happen in your cricketing career but I feel like I’m batting really well again over the last couple of years. Playing that year with Rajasthan also helped me learn a little bit about my own batting,” Ashwin added.

Ashwin said he was pretty disappointed by the way he was dismissed in the first innings. Australia debutant Todd Murphy caught Ashwin lbw on his way to a 6-wicket haul.

Yesterday as well, I didn’t look like I was going to get out until that. Pretty disappointing to get out that way because I felt like I got the pace. Eventually to give it away like that wasn’t really pleasing for me,” said Ashwin.

India are currently leading Australia by over 150 runs after bundling the visitors for 177 in the first innings. Ashwin picked up three wickets in the first innings and formed a deadly spin-bowling partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up a five-wicket haul.
