By India Today Web Desk: Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja has claimed that Ravindra Jadeja’s batting consistency is coming from the mental change he has made to his game in the past few years.
Jadeja made his return to the Indian team even more memorable on Friday when he scored a fifty to add to his five-wicket haul on Day one for the Nagpur Test in the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
The Indian all-rounder’s contributions with the bat have come in handy for India over the past few years as he continues to build his name as a good lower-order batter for the team.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Ajay Jadeja said that there was never a doubt about Ravindra Jadeja’s batting ability and in the past few years we haven’t been seeing him getting out for low scores.
The former cricketer went on to say that the all-rounder’s batting had improved consistently and the change happened in his mind.
No one had a doubt in Jadeja’s batting ability. If someone did doubt, it was Jadeja himself at times. But in the last few years, the consistency he has shown in his batting. And it’s not like he doesn’t get out. But whenever he plays, we don’t see him getting out for 20, 30 or 40.
But he plays long innings. The last two hundreds he scored came in the last one and a half years. His batting has improved consistently. It’s not like he has brought in something new to his batting. The change has happened in his head and we had seen it with his bowling. And now we’re getting to see it in his batting as well.
The consistency is not in making small scores. Once he is set, Jadeja makes big scores. On today’s pitch, any delivery could get you out. But the batting consistency is coming from the change he has made mentally and that has made the difference for him.
Ravindra Jadeja ended the day unbeaten on 66 with India leading by 144 runs.
