By India Today Web Desk: Former player Sanjay Bangar was highly impressed with Rohit Sharma for the way the India captain batted in the first innings in the Nagpur Test. Rohit held one side of the Indian innings while others lost their wickets against the Australian spinners on Friday, 10 February.

Speaking during the lunch break, Bangar said that the way that Rohit constructed his innings was brilliant.
“The way Rohit started his innings yesterday was brilliant. The number of times he could pepper that onside boundary, and the thing that stood out for me was his balance on the crease, whether against pace or spin,” Bangar said.
When India came out to bat late on the first day, Rohit Sharma showed aggressive intent, while KL Rahul looked to defend whatever came his way. Rahul was dismissed by Todd Murphy when he was at 20 off 71, while Rohit completed his half-century.
“He was getting into good positions, not only to play the attacking shots, but to put a doubt in the bowlers’ minds. All in all, a lot of skill incolved in doing that,” Bangar explained.
On Day 2, Australia did well to restrict the run flow from the Indians and were largely successful. However, Sharma continued to score runs and closed the gap on the Australian lead.
“Australian bowlers stuck to their task pretty well. It was hard to score runs with the circular sort of field that Australia offered before lunch. They came out with a plan and stuck to their guns and had a tight leash on the scoring area,” Bangar concluded his analysis.
