The spinner was given the prestigious Baggy Green by Nathan Lyon on the day of the Test match. Speaking about the experience on the sidelines of the Test match, Murphy revealed some valuable advice that Lyon imparted on the player.
“It was really nice to get that one (wicket of KL Rahul) late last night. It would have been a restless might fi I hadn’t got one. So it was nice to be on the board,” Murphy told Cricket Australia.
“To take a wicket at the end of the day’s play was handy for everyone,” he further added.
Stating that he was relieved to get the first wicket out of the way, Murphy hoped that he along with Nathan Lyon can pose some difficult challenges for the India batters throughout the series.
“Gaz’s stock balls are so good that he believes a lot in that and he is so consistent with it, where I probably reply on a little more variation,” Murphy said on the sidelines of the 1st Test match.
The off spinner revealed what Lyon had told him during the cap presentation and said that he was asked to compete as hard has he could by Nathan Lyon.
“I remeber a couple of things that Gaz said. He said that just make sure I never forget why I started playing cricket and to keep that love for the game and then just get out there and compete as hard as you can,” Murphy said.
