By India Today Web Desk: Australia’s Matthew Renshaw returned to the field after passing the fitness test in the ongoing first Test against India in Nagpur on Friday (January 10).
The 26-year-old was sent for X-rays on his knee after suffering an injury during a warm-up ahead of the second day of the first Test. Renshaw was picked in the playing XI in place of Cameron Green, who is still recovering from a finger injury.
While the results of the scans remain unknown, Renshaw’s return to the field in the second session assures there was no major damage.
“Matthew Renshaw has returned to the field having passed a fitness test,” said an Australian team spokesperson according to cricket.com.au. “He is reporting no major concerns. Renshaw will continue to be monitored by team medical staff.”
Australia are without the services of Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc due to finger injuries, and Josh Hazlewood owing to an Achilles complaint.
“I’ve matured a lot in the last 6 years,” Renshaw had told cricket.com.au earlier. “I feel like I can have adult conversations with a few of the guys – I didn’t feel like I could talk to any of them back in the day. At times I can still be the Turtle. But it’s more just being myself.”
Australia were bundled out for just 177 on Day 1 of the Nagpur Test after Ravindra Jadeja returned with a five-wicket haul and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets.
In reply, India captain Rohit Sharma hit his ninth Test hundred as he powered the hosts to a 200-plus score. Pat Cummins got the breakthrough as he dismissed Rohit for 120. Australia’s Todd Murphy, playing in his maiden Test match, took a five-wicket haul to rattle India’s middle-order, including the prized wicket of Virat Kohli (12).
