By India Today Web Desk: Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has opened up on the club’s Premier League title push, saying there are no limits on what they can achieve. The Gunners are currently leading the Premier League table with 50 points from 20 matches.
Speaking to The Players’ Tribune, Odegaard said he first spoke to Arteta on a zoom call before his move to Arsenal, adding that the Spaniard is next level when it comes to convincing his players.
“I spoke to Mikel Arteta on a Zoom call and he told me all about the project. He is next level. It’s hard to explain. He’s passionate, he’s intense and sometimes, yeah, he’s a bit crazy but when he speaks, you understand that whatever he says will happen, will happen,” said Odegaard.
The Norway captain said Arteta told him about his plan for Arsenal’s future, and told Odegaard how he would fit into the system that he’s trying to create.
“He told me his plan, everything he was building towards. He knew exactly what needed to change at the club. He told me all about these amazing young players in the squad — [Bukayo] Saka, [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Emile] Smith Rowe, etc. He told me how he wanted me to fit in and how I was going to improve,” Odegaard added.
Odegaard said he got a strong feeling that Arteta was onto something special, while insisting that none of the Arsenal players are thinking about May yet.
“I got this strong feeling that he was onto something really special. We’re in the title race now,” he said. “But there’s a long way to go and, trust me, no one is thinking about May yet,” said Odegaard.
The 24-year-old said they are taking it one game at a time, insisting that there are no limits to what they can achieve as a team this season.
“It’s a cliche but we are taking it game by game, training session by training session. I will say this, though, if there’s anyone left who still doesn’t fully believe in this team, take it from me: there are no limits on what we can achieve. No one can tell me otherwise. I’m so proud to be captain of this club and I feel like I’m going to be here a long time,” Odegaard added.
