By India Today Web Desk: World number three Ons Jabeur pulled out of the WTA tournaments in Doha and Dubai due to an impending surgery.

The 2022 finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open neither gave details about the operation nor revealed why it was needed.

“In order to take care of my health situation. My medical team have decided that I need to get a minor surgery in order to be able to be back on the courts and perform well,” Jabeur said on Instagram.

“I will have to retire from Doha and Dubai and this is breaking my heart. I would like to say sorry to all the fans out there in the Middle East that waited for this reunion. I promise I will come back to you stronger and healthy.”

The Qatar Open is scheduled to take place from February 13 to 18 and the Dubai Duty Free Championships is set to be held the next week.

Jabeur was knocked out of the 2023 Australian Open in the second round match last month after suffering a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 defeat against former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova.

Jabeur talked about the need to manage an ongoing knee injury, saying: “It’s not a big injury, but sometimes it might bother me. I try to take it one day at a time. It’s a great challenge, you know.”

The world number three rose in the rankings on the back of success in the past few seasons. She reached the quarterfinals in Doha twice (2020 and 2022) and in Dubai once (2022).
