By India Today Web Desk: Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer trolled David Warner and the Australian team after their shaky start to the Nagpur Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Thursday.
A lot was said about the track in Nagpur ahead of the Test, with Australian media claiming that the pitch was doctored by the Indian team management to put things in their favour.
As per a report on Fox Cricket, reporters claimed that only the middle portion of the Nagpur pitch was watered and rolled, whereas the exact area which would be targeted by left-handed spinners was left dry.
The Australian media claimed that this was done to trouble Australia’s left-hand batters like Warner, Usman Khawaja, among others. There were images of the veteran opener batting right-handed in the nets in an attempt to tackle the Indian spinners.
A report by Fox Sport also said that Warner may use the tactic in the first Test as well.
тАЬDavid Warner is a left-hander. ItтАЩs worth mentioning, since heтАЩs been spotted in the nets batting right-handed. HeтАЩs reportedly told teammates he will go rightie in the Test тАУ likely when coming up against IndiaтАЩs two left-arm orthodox spinners in Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel,тАЭ said the report.
However, all this went out of the window as the Indian pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj got rid of the openers in the first three overs of the game.
Khawaja was trapped in front of the wickets while Shami took Warner’s off stump for a walk with a beautiful delivery.
After the nervous start, Jaffer decided to troll the opener and Australia for their attempt to counter the spinners and the allegations made about the pitch by Australian media.
The former cricketer shared an image of the opener batting right-handed and said that he expects Warner to bat in that fashion at some point in the match.
“Expecting Warner to bat right handed sometime during the Test to counter the rough outside left handers off stump,” said Jaffer.
Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith has since steadied the ship for the Aussies with the duo taking the attack to India.
