By India Today Web Desk: Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh reckoned that Suryakumar Yadav should make his Test debut as he picked his playing XI for India’s opening Test of the four-match Test series against Australia to be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur.
Yadav has been a revelation for India in limited-overs cricket, especially T20Is. But the right-hander has experience of playing 79 first-class matches in which he has scored 5549 runs with 14 hundreds and 28 half-centuries to show for his efforts.
Apart from Suryakumar, Harbhajan also picked KS Bharat to make his debut in Nagpur. Harbhajan felt that Bharat should keep wickets in place of Rishabh Pant, who is not a part of the series after the car accident he suffered.
Harbhajan also left out KL Rahul from his playing XI. Rahul had said that if the team required him to bat in the middle-order, he would be more than happy to do so.
Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are Harbhajan’s three spinners for the Nagpur Test. He didn’t pick Kuldeep Yadav, who won the Player of the Match award in the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh.
Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are the two fast bowlers picked by Harbhajan for the upcoming Test match.
Rohit Sharma has returned to open the batting with Shubman Gill, who has had a dream run in 2023 until now. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli should bat at No.4 barring a miraculous turn of events.
