By India Today Web Desk: India and Australia will clash in the first Test of the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy from February 9 in Nagpur.
India are coming on the back of three Test series victories over Australia and also have a better head-to-head record, having won 22 out of 52 Tests.
With Day 1 of the first Test beginning at 9:30 AM IST, the temperature is expected to be 21 degree celcius and will increase as the day progresses. There are no chances of precipitation, according to the Met Office.
Ahead of the first Test, India captain Rohit Sharma opened up on the team selection, saying “Shubman has been in supreme form, a lot of big hundreds, on the other hand, SKY has shown what he brings to the range, but we have not decided whom we will go with.”
One of the major missings from the Test series will be wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who is recovering after being involved in a near fatal car crash. “We will miss Rishabh Pant but we have guys to fill his role. We have had a good talk with the batters about their plans and hopefully, we will execute them from tomorrow onwards,” Rohit said.
When asked about the Australian media uproar about the pitch, Rohit said that the track will benefit the spinners. “Itna pitch maat dekho, cricket khelo. After all, the 22 guys out there are all quality players,” he said.
